HONG KONG – November 8, 2021 – Burgundy prices continue to rise as Acker indulged a thirsty wine market with a two-day sale in Hong Kong on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th, selling HK$45M/US$5.8M, led by an impressive collection of investment-grade Burgundy. Of the impressive 313 New World Records set, more than 90% went to Burgundy producers, including 28 for Lucien le Moine, 23 for Leroy, 19 for DRC, 11 for Rousseau, and 8 for Prieure Roch. Investors cashed in on the opportunity to own pristine stock from the featured “Investment Grade Burgundy” collection, purchased on release in London and never moved before this sale.
Domaine de la Romanee Conti and Domaine Leroy/d’Auvenay prevailed in the Top Ten lots, winning all but one of the spots, which was secured by the white wine specialist, Domaine Leflaive. DRC took the top four prizes, with three bottles of 1999 Romanee Conti selling for an impressive $96,387, earning Top Lot of the sale. Second place went to 12 bottles of assorted DRC from the 1991 vintage for $83,535, while third prize was captured by three bottles of 2010 Romanee Conti for $77,110. The fourth spot was awarded to three bottles of 2006 Romanee Conti in OWC, ringing in at $64,258. A case of 2007 Leroy Vosne Romanee Les Brulees came in at number five, realizing $61,045, and sixth place was a tie between 3 bottles of 1992 Domaine Leflaive Montrachet and a 12-bottle assortment of 1997 DRC, both garnering $54,619. DRC also earned the eighth spot with 6 bottles of 1999 La Tache picking up $51,406. The final Top Ten Lots were a four-way tie, all selling for $48,194, including 2 bottles of 2010 DRC Romanee Conti, 3 bottles of 2013 D’Auvenay (Leroy) Batard Montrachet, and a case each of Domaine Leroy Vosne Romanee Les Genaivrieres 2007 and 2013.
“Demand continues to grow, and it’s great to see Hong Kong still humming away,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Burgundy is thriving, but it’s not only Burgundy; demand and prices continue to rise across the board for all collectible wines. The market is attracting more and new buyers all the time; the largest buyer in this sale is brand new to Acker! This auction set the stage for the auction of the year, which also happens to be a celebration of my 50th birthday. The book is breathtaking, and I’m looking forward to this auction like no other this year.”
The (50th) Birthday Auction will take place in Delaware and Live Online on Friday November 19th and Saturday November 20th, featuring 2,200 lots estimated at $15 Million.
