Lot 903: 12 Bottles 1982 Chateau Lafleur
Lot 492: 12 Bottles 2002 R.Engel Clos Vougeot

Acker gave a royal welcome to the 2024 auction season with its “Three Kings” US sale on January 25 and 26 live online from Delaware. The event achieved $4.25 million in sales, featuring The Timeless Collection of Wolfgang Grunewald, The Exceptional Cellar of Edgar Bronfman Jr, and The Estate of Bill Floyd. The sale set the tone for 2024 as Acker gears up for two consecutive auctions in March: La Paulée in the US on February 29 & March 1, and a sale welcoming the Year of the Dragon on March 9 in Hong Kong. Notably, both auctions will feature bidding parties in multiple cities, La Paulée from New York and Los Angeles, and a first-ever simulcast in Bangkok for the Hong Kong event in addition to the usual Shanghai.

The Top Ten Lots in the auction were dominated by Burgundy. Topping the list were twelve bottles of 2009 Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze and twelve bottles of 1982 Chateau Lafleur, each fetching $32,500. Rousseau continued its commanding presence with nine bottles of 2002 Chambertin and ten bottles of 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze, matching three bottles of 1985 Dujac Clos de la Roche for the second position at $30,000. Securing the third and fourth spots were twelve bottles of 2002 R. Engel Clos Vougeot, realizing $27,500, and a magnum of 2019 Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache, which captured $22,500 and set a New World Record. Domaine de la Romanee Conti also claimed the fifth spot, with one bottle of 2015 and one bottle of 2019 Romanee Conti each garnering $21,250. The Top Ten Lots concluded with a four-way tie, featuring a bottle each of 2020 and 1990 DRC Romanee Conti, six bottles of 1998 DRC La Tache, and six bottles of 1985 Dujac Charmes Chambertin, all achieving $20,000.

"We were thrilled to kick off the 2024 auction season with this active sale, which is a promising sign for things to come. The market has recalibrated and is reinvigorated, thanks to the outstanding featured collections from our Three Kings," commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “For those that know fine wine, Grunewald, Bronfman and Floyd are meaningful names, and we are proud they chose to entrust Acker with their superlative collections. As great as this sale was, we’re just getting started, with back-to-back sales coming up in March. We are all looking forward to our second La Paulée this year with live bidding parties in New York and Los Angeles, as well as our Year of the Dragon auction in Hong Kong, featuring our first simulcast in Bangkok! We continue to go where we’ve never gone before, and it has brought an extra excitement to 2024 as we begin a new season.”

Acker's auction season continues with the La Paulée Auction on February 29 and March 1 in the US, featuring simulcasts in New York and Los Angeles, and the Year of the Dragon Auction on March 9 in Hong Kong with simulcasts in Shanghai and Bangkok. There is also a spirits sale scheduled for March 12. Acker is currently accepting consignments for April 2024 auctions, and weekly web auction deadlines close every Friday.
