This has wonderful spice and depth but drops off just a little quicker than some. Forty two days skin contact, variable weather during flowering so a difficult fruit set and low crop numbers in the end. A cool August allowed for long slow ripening, and there are layers of liquorice and slate notes adding complexity through the mid-palate.

The 1993 Opus One is a wine of pure impact. The fruit is front and center in this bold, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon. Slight elements of brett detract from the wine's balance, but the 1993 has enough depth to drink well for at least another decade, if not considerably longer.

Deep garnet-brick colour. Fragrant aromas of dried cranberries, prunes, cinnamon and cumin giving way to subtler earthy notes of leather and tar. A lot of discernable fruit remains on the palate framed by crisp acidity and a medium level of grainy tannins. Very long, layered finish.

Aromatically complex, with enticing floral, perfumed fruit and spice, cedar and cigar box scents. Delivers a rich, complex core of earthy currant, mocha, exotic spice and fresh leather flavors. Tannins are well-integrated, with a long, vibrant, pleasantly earthy aftertaste.
