Reviews & Scores
In contrast to the expressive noses of the 3 prior grands crus, this is positively discreet and almost reticent by comparison and only vigorous swirling would coax the broad-scaled nose to reveal itself, offering up notes of anise, peach, pear, citrus, orange blossom and honey that also merges seamlessly into textured, sweet, powerful and robust full-bodied flavors that possess a seductive mouth feel yet excellent precision and cut as well. This is a big wine and not overly refined but the sheer depth of material is almost hard to believe and as such, this will eventually transform into something very, very special. Drink from 2013+ *Don't Miss!* - BH

There are seven piéces of Montrachet in the Sauzet cellars this year, and that is good news for a thirsty world, as this is a magnificent wine. While all of the other Sauzet wines (with the exception of the lonely barrel of wild boar-reduced Truffières) had been racked into tank, the Montrachet was still all in barrel to allow it to get a bit more oxygenation. The nose on the 2005 is absolutely celestial, as it offers up a brilliantly complex blend of pear, lemon, apple, striking minerality, crème patissiere, spring flowers and a gentle framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very complex, with a rock solid core of fruit, firm acids, blazing focus, and stunning length and grip on the magical finish. Great, great juice in the making. - JG

Oaky aromas of clove and menthol. Large-scaled, oaky and ripe, with an almost candied character. And yet this solid, powerful, extremely young wine conveys an impression of great verve and elegance. Finishes very long and subtle, with nothing heavy about it. Even after Boudot racks this wine into stainless steel cuve, he'll keep some of the fine lees. The 2005 grand crus are likely to be bottled as late as next March. - VM
